What you need:
1 onion, sliced
2 tablespoons fresh ginger, diced
1 cinnamon stick
1 teaspoon cumin seed
3 cloves
2 cardamom
3 chiles
5 peppercorns
2 bay leaves
1 cup basmati rice
1 pkg frozen peas
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 teaspoon salt, according to taste
4 cups water
What you do:
1. Preheat pan over medium high heat and add oil, peppercorns, bay leaves, chiles, cardamom and cloves.
2. Heat for a few minutes and add onion.
3. When it becomes translucent add ginger.
4. Meanwhile wash your rice and soak in an inch of water.
5. Add peas. Cook for 7 minutes.
6. Add rice.
7. Add water. About one inch above rice.
8. Bring it to a boil. Then lower heat to simmer and cover to cook.
