Slow cooker marinara sauce


What you need:

1 can diced tomatoes

2 can tomato sauce

2 cups chopped onion

3/4 cup diced carrots

1/2 cup diced celery

1/4 cup diced garlic

3 tablespoons olive oil

1/2 cup oregano

2 tablespoons crushed pepper flakes

2 tablespoons tomato paste

2 cups water

1 cup mushrooms

Chopped basil, salt and pepper

What you do:

1. Turn on slow cooker to low

2. Add tomato sauce, diced tomatoes and water to slow cooker. 

3. Put a skillet on the stove with the olive oil in medium night heat. Add garlic and onions.  

4. Add carrots and celery to the skillet to soften.  

5. Add red pepper flakes and oregano.  

6. Add tomato paste and incorporate over low heat.  

7. Add vegetable mix to the tomato mixture already in slow cooker. Stir in and let simmer for 8 hours on low.  

8. Add mushrooms.

9. Add basil, salt and pepper along with a cup of water once every hour for the last three hours of cooking. Purée mixture if needed and enjoy!.

You can add chicken to this for Slow Cooker Chicken Marinara, meatballs for Slow Cooker Meatballs in Marinara or use by itself over pasta, rice, in soup or as a dipping sauce for Chicken Parmesan, Cheesy Garlic Bread or Fried Zucchini.
