Best bet: My personal fave at the moment is the Lagunitas Imperial Stout. This is West Village haunt is a beer connoisseur’s dream, but you don’t have to be a beer snob to like it here. Just ask the bartender. The staff never steers you wrong.

McGee’s Pub

Best bet: They’ve got a surprising selection that includes the usual fare but also features some goodies. But go for the PBR.

Best Bite

Daniel
Location: 60 E. 65th Street (near Madison), NYC 10065 | 212-288-0033
Hours: 5:30 p.m. every day except Sunday
Best bet: The menu changes constantly at this Upper East Side fine dining spot, but whenever you see it, the frog’s legs veloute is a standout starter by chef Daniel Boulud. Reservations are mandatory.

La Sirene
Location: 558 Broome Street New York, NY 10013 | 212-925-3061
Hours:Monday-Thursday 5 to 10:30 p.m.; Friday to Saturday 5 to 11:30 p.m.; Sunday 5 to 10:30 p.m.
Best bet: This SoHo eatery’s menu changes seasonally, but if the rabbit is on the menu, ORDER IT! (And if the chef is in the mood to carry profiteroles for dessert, get those, too — they’re authentic, and he’s authentically French and cranky.)

Peter Luger Steakhouse
Location:178 Broadway,Brooklyn, N.Y. 11211 |718-387-7400
Hours:Monday-Thursday from 11:45am to 9:45pm;
Friday-Saturday from 11:45am to 10:45pm; Sunday from 1 pm to 9:45 pm
Best bet: Always order the porterhouse. It’s their signature. Get it for two or three and order it medium-rare so the waiters don’t give you dirty looks.

Wolfgang’s Steakhouse
Location:4 Park Avenue (at East 33rd), New York, NY 10016 |
(212) 889-3369
Hours: Noon to 10:30 pm, Monday through Thursday, noon to 11 p.m. Saturday to Sunday, 5 to 10:30 p.m. Sundays.
Best bet: Also the porterhouse, but as your side dish, get the “bacon.” It’s like no bacon you’ve ever had before. In fact, it’s as close to heaven as you can get on the East Side.

Westville West
Location: 210 W 10th St # 1, New York, NY 10014-6411

| 212-741-7971
Hours: Monday-Friday 11:30 am to 11 pm.
Best bet: They have a great bargain — for the price of a cheaper entree, you can get five of their veggie sides on one massive plate. They’re fresh and deeeelish.
