We had a tasting of light- and medium- beers at the Library Alehouse in Santa Monica, Calif. I like the Apricot Wheat the best!

We spent our Labor Day afternoon on a field trip to the Library Alehouse in Santa Monica, Calif., to try out their burgers which I had hear great things about.

When we got to the comfortable pub we were seated in the patio in the back so we got to enjoy the beautiful, sunshiny afternoon with a sampler of light beers and some sandwiches.

For the sampler, you could choose any 5 premium drafts on the alehouse’s extensive menu. We chose the Broweij Blond, Apricot Wheat, Mama’s Little Yella Pils, Chimay Cinq Cents from Belgium and the Ballast Point Yellowtail. You got a 5-5-oz glasses in the sample.

Then we ordered some sandwiches with some sides.

The Alehouse Gourmet burger comes with a Kobe or Lindner grass-fed bison. This one was topped with bacon, cheese and guacamole on it on a toasted bun. The burger is very juicy, tender and succulent. The patty, bacon and cheese were a delight. However, the guacamole could have been a whole lot better with a little kick - pepper, cilantro and lime would

Rob's Turkey Club came with lettuce, tomato, avocado, turkey, bacon with a basil aioli on a soft French roll. The aioli made this sandwich great!

The Buffalo Mozzarella Sandwich came with a thick slice of buffalo mozzarella cheese, roma tomato, avocado and basil with olive oil and balsamic vinegar on ciabatta bread. This hearty, delicious vegetarian option was enhanced by the crispy, salty curly fries.
